How to Give Back This Holiday Season: Big & Small Ways to Make a Difference

The holidays are often described as the “season of giving,” but giving back doesn’t always mean writing a check or donating a trunk full of toys — though those things certainly help. At its core, giving is about showing up for others: kindness, time, encouragement, generosity, and effort.

At Beckley’s RVs, “The Beckley’s Difference” has always meant treating people — customers, coworkers, and our community — with genuine care. This year, we’re proud to embody that spirit by encouraging giving back in any meaningful way.

Whether you’re hoping to give back locally, within your family, or simply through small everyday actions: here are thoughtful ways to give, and local organizations in Frederick County where help is truly needed.

🎁 Support Local Toy Drives & Holiday Collections

Giving back can be as simple as donating a toy, book, or winter item to help a local child experience a little more joy this season.

Here in Frederick County, Glade Valley Community Services operates a “Holiday Toy Shoppe,” providing gifts to families who may not otherwise have the means. They also support the community year-round with a food bank, emergency relief, and more.

And if you’d like to give locally without going far, you can drop new, unwrapped toys right here at Beckley’s RVs. We have a donation box located in our showroom, making it easy to contribute during your next visit.

Even one small gift can make a world of difference to a child who might otherwise go without.

❤️ Give Your Time — The Most Valuable Gift

Not everyone has extra money during the holidays — and that’s okay. Time is equally, if not more, meaningful.

Here are a few easy ways to volunteer locally around Frederick County:

  • Frederick Community Table — they serve hot, nutritious dinners seven nights a week, 365 days a year to individuals and families in need. Volunteers are needed for serving meals and cleaning afterward.
  • Frederick Food Bank — the County’s main food-bank program. Volunteers help sort donations, stock shelves, and distribute food to families in need.
  • Beyond Shelter Frederick — they run emergency shelters for individuals and families, provide eviction prevention support, rental/utility assistance, and more. Volunteering or donating helps homeless or at-risk neighbors get the support they need.

If you’re short on cash during the season but can spare a few hours — these kinds of volunteer hours can have real impact.

🙏 Help Those Facing Hardship: Food, Shelter, Stability

Many families in our community are struggling with food insecurity, unstable housing, or unexpected emergencies. Supporting local social-service organizations helps meet immediate needs and preserve dignity. Some of the organizations doing vital work right now:

  • Friends for Neighborhood Progress — through its George L. Shields Foodbank, this group provides 3–5 days’ worth of groceries to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity across Frederick County. Donations — monetary or food items — are always accepted.
  • Society of St. Vincent de Paul – Frederick County — provides emergency financial assistance to prevent homelessness by helping with rent, security deposits, utility shutoffs, and other urgent needs.
  • Beyond Shelter Frederick — as mentioned, they also offer shelters for those experiencing homelessness, and assist with rental or utility assistance, medical needs, and more to help people regain stability.

Donating food, paying forward a meal, giving a few nights’ shelter — or working to help someone get back on their feet — can make a huge difference for individuals and families this season.

🧡 Spread Emotional Generosity: Kindness, Compassion & Connection

Giving back doesn’t have to be physical or financial. Sometimes emotional support is what someone needs most.

  • Reach out to a family member you haven’t talked to in a while.
  • Invite someone who may be alone this season to a small gathering.
  • Offer words of encouragement or help to a neighbor or coworker.
  • Practice patience, empathy, and grace — everyone is carrying unseen burdens.

Small kindnesses, genuine connections, and moments of compassion often mean the most.

🏡 Give Within Your Own Circle: Family & Friends Matter, Too

You don’t have to look far to find opportunities to give back.

  • Offer free babysitting to a parent who needs a break.
  • Help a family member or friend with errands, chores, or gathering supplies.
  • Cook a meal for someone who may be overwhelmed.
  • Create a meaningful, homemade gift rather than buying something expensive.

Giving doesn’t have to be extravagant — it just has to come from the heart.

✨ This Season, Let’s Live Out The Beckley’s Difference

Giving back isn’t about how much you give — you don’t need to have a lot to give a little. It’s about lifting each other up in ways big and small, and choosing compassion in a season that sometimes moves too fast.

At Beckley’s, we believe in community, care, and connection. That’s why this holiday season — through workplace initiatives and our own commitment to service — we’ll be donating to two local charities and doing our part to spread joy, generosity, and kindness.

But truly — whether you donate a toy, serve a meal, lend a hand, or offer a caring word — you can make a difference.

Together, we can make this year brighter for everyone.
