Ready to Plan a Motorhome Vacation?

Now that it’s springtime, passionate RVers all over are ready to de-winterize their RVs and plan that vacation—perhaps to a scenic campground for fun and relaxation. If you’re a newcomer to the RV lifestyle, you may be curious about the different types of motorhomes you can choose from as well as the benefits of traveling by motorhome—as opposed to traveling by travel trailer, fifth wheel, or pop-up camper. Beckley’s sorts it all out for you.

Types of Motorhomes

Motorhomes are divided into three classes, including Class A, B, and C motorhomes:

Class A Motorhomes

Class A motorhomes are the largest—they span up to 45 ft. in length. With all of this space, they’re usually equipped with a rear master suite including a full bathroom with glass-enclosed shower. Today’s Class A motorhomes tend to have multiple slideouts. Some of these motorhomes can expand to a width of over 14 ft. Available options for Class A motorhomes include large flat screen HDTVs, surround sound systems, dishwashers, and ice machines – to name a few. You can find Class A motorhomes in both gas and diesel engines. Some Class A motorhomes even offer the ability to store your ATV or motorcycle in the rear area via a drop down ramp.

Class B Motorhomes

Class B motorhomes are built on a van chassis, and since they are the smallest class of motorhomes, they tend to offer the best gas mileage and are usually the least expensive. While these motorhomes are small, they are suitable for shorter getaways that last around two or three days, but they are generally too small to live in for long periods of time. Class B motorhomes will have no problem parking within an average sized spot or driveway. If you want convenience and don’t mind having minimal space to move around, then a class B motorhome might be the perfect RV for you.

Class C Motorhomes

Class C motorhomes are  the medium-sized motorhome, and they are supported by a cabin chassis. They are typically distinguished by their over-cab sleeping area. Compared to a Class B, Class C motorhomes offer more room for the living area, kitchen, and bathroom. Depending on the length, these motorhomes sometimes have a rear bedroom. Class C motorhomes are usually able to tow a separate car for running errands and sight-seeing. If you have a larger family and would like to tow a vehicle behind your rig, a Class C motorhome might be the right RV for you.

Benefits of Traveling by Motorhome

If you’ve ever traveled by car with your kids, you’ve probably heard the infamous, “Are we there yet?” line. Traveling by motorhome solves this problem once and for all. Just imagine driving in peace and enjoying the open road as your kids are watching their favorite movie, playing video games, or even watching satellite TV. This will make the entire vacation so much more enjoyable and relaxing—both for you and your family.

Motorhomes also offer tremendous convenience since they can be parked in practically any place. With a motorhome, you can go to the top of a mountain or visit beautiful sandy beaches—there are several incredible beach RV parks you and your family can plan a vacation to! What’s better than experiencing a tropical vacation paradise in your motorhome? Also, with motorhomes, you don’t have to worry about hooking or unhooking a tow vehicle like you would with a trailer or pop-up.

Traditional family vacations can be expensive—hotel rooms, dining out, amusement parks, and plane tickets (if you plan on flying) can cost a small fortune. A motorhome vacation eliminates these expenses, while offering the opportunity to create a lasting family bonding experience. High end campgrounds with full hookups are far more affordable than hotel lodging. Yes, even with gas prices, the money you will save on hotel rooms, expensive dinner options and airplane tickets easily makes RVing in a motorhome the economical way to vacation!
